Our Story - So Far (the past 5/6 Years!)

Story time...

As I mentioned in our first post, we're made up of Harvey, Dom and Jack. Harvey and Jack have known each other since a very young age and already had a strong friendship. Dom and Harvey met each other on a high school skiing trip where Harvey sat behind Dom on a coach and started talking over their love of music, and subsequently, Harvey introduced Dom to Jack who also had a love of EDM music. From this, we had an idea of wanting to become a DJ trio group, inspired early on by Sweedish House Mafia (all as a bit of fun and a joke as we enjoyed DJing).

Deciding on a name (although ours isn't the most creative out there) was tricky, we spent a lot of time thinking about all these crazy names we could use. In the end, we decided to have it focus around the 3 of us and keep it simple. We first came up with L/E\W, inspired by Axwell/\Ingrosso, but when our legendary art guy Jamie created our logo, it made more sense design wise to be L•E•W which worked out well as its more of our own style and looked better for poster design. L•E•W is literally the initials of our surnames.

From there, we bought small equipment, crappy little DJ controllers, played around with producer software like Garageband and the free version of LF Studio, all whist we were still at school and doing exams. Nothing really happened with us and the spark was dying out and our interests going elsewhere. Around the end of our school life, Dom and Harvey were asked to DJ a school event, and then a friends birthday party thereafter. Although small events, it made us remember how much we loved it all. All 3 of us upgraded our gear, bought new controllers/decks and production software (Logic Pro x).

Our first event was called (seen in the picture below) "The PowerHouse Project", which consisted of local bands playing and finalising the rest of the night with us DJing it into a club night. It was great and most importantly - we learnt a lot (one being Jack - don't get so smashed next time). This was an event we organised and planned ourselves which we didn't actually make any money from. From there, we went on to organise a second event which was to have 4 DJ's over the entire night playing on two floors in a proper club venue. Unfortunately, completely out of our hands, resulting from a murder of one of the owners of the club - I should probably add here, we're from a very very quiet part of South of England, this was the first murder in many many years! - it meant that the club night had to be cancelled as the club couldn't financially stay open.

We took a break there from arranging events and went on to focus on more production side of music. We decided, (inspired by acts like Bassjackers, Blasterjaxx etc) that we wanted to make Big Room. We had recently been to Creamfields and watched Bassjackers in a small tent. It reminded us that we love the energy that Big Room can give. Most importantly though, we watched the reunion of Sweedish House Mafia, one of our original and still do this day, biggest inspirations.

All this resulted in us releasing our first track "Like This", and with many more tracks in the making and working with artists overseas, we hope to be releasing more music in the future. We've now come full circle and are ready to get back out there into events, clubs (once COVID-19 is over, of course) and live Mixcloud Mixes, whilst simultaneously producing new music.

Quite a long story there, taking place over 5/6 years... But that takes us up to where we are now as Dom, Jack and Harvey - L•E•W.
